     The route followed by the U.S. Survey Team in 1825 generally replicated the course already established by the Santa Fe Traders. However, there are notable exceptions. Two such exception illustrated by Site A1 and Site A2 are included in this Auto Tour Guide.

Site A-1
Branch: The Survey Route
Designation: August 30, 1825 Campsite of the Santa Fe Trail Survey Team
Location: From 14th Street and Broadway in Larned, Kansas, proceed east on K-156/U.S. 56, 5.7 miles, left .1 mile, left .5 mile, and right .4 mile to the marker on the right. The marker sits in the fence line on the north side of the Ash Creek.

Site A-2 -- Interpretive Marker
Branch: The Survey Route
Designation: August 31, 1825 Campsite of the Santa Fe Trail Survey Team.
Location: From the Site A1 marker, left 1.5 miles, and left 2.7 miles to K-156/U.S 56. Turn right 1.9 miles to Trail Street at the east edge of Larned, Kansas and left 1.2 miles to 4th Street and Broadway. Turn left and then right on Trail Street (U.S. 56) .2 mile and right again .2 mile on W. 2nd Street to the marker on the right. Do get out and look around. On the east side of the site is a display and information about the site that you won't want to miss. Across the street to the south is the replication of the first building in Larned, Kansas.
