The Fort Larned Military Road Auto Tour

"THE FORT LARNED MILITARY ROAD"

Following the establishment of the mail station and nearby Camp on Pawnee Fork (later Fort Larned), a new road was developed. Replicating The Post-1859 Route southwest of Fort Larned for 3.1 miles, it then took a southerly orientation of 7 miles to merge with The Wet Route near Coon Creek Crossing.

Location: From the Site G-1 Marker, continue south 2.2 miles, right 1 mile, left 1 mile, left .5 mile, and right .2 mile to U.S. 56. Turn right .4 mile. To the right of this point 300 yards is the marker.

Location: From the Site G-2 Marker, return east 300 yards to U.S. 56, and right .5 mile to the marker on the right.
