Western Terminus of The Post 1859 Dry Route with The Wet Route

Western Terminus of the later Dry Route with the Wet Route of the Santa Fe Trail about one mile east of Fort Dodge, Kansas. Trail Ruts can be seen coming down from the ridge to the north of US 400 highway at this location. The ruts are the lines just to the northwest of the farmyard. The marker's are located just west of the farm yard on the north side of U. S. 400 in the fence line. At this location is a DAR marker, a limestone post marker and one of the interpretive markers that gives a little more information about the site. In early times before Fort Dodge and the trading post that was at this location, an earlier Dry Route ran about two miles north of this location and came into what is now Dodge City and continued on to the west to a place called "The Caches" a campsite near Forts Mann and Atkinson.
