The famous Ralphs Ruts are located four miles west of Chase, Kansas and one mile north of US 56 on the east side of the road. At the site is a DAR Marker. Near this is the site of the Plum Buttes Massacre. Also just to the west of this location about a mile is the location on the Santa Fe Trail called Plum Buttes. Plum Buttes was a landmark or guidepost for the travelers in trail times.
