Historic Building Meets End: More History Lost!
September 5, 1998
LARNED, KANSAS - The oldest building in Larned, an apartment building, was torn down Saturday morning. The Erway Apartment Building was demolished by a John Deere backhoe because one corner of the building was reportedly about to fall down.
Harold Erway, owner of the property, said the building was in bad shape. He said it would have been cost prohibitive to fix it up. In the past couple weeks, the back part of the apartment building had been slowly torn down.
The building was once the office of Henry Booth, credited as principal founder of Pawnee County and the City of Larned. Since then, the building has been used as a hotel, hatchery and finally an apartment house.
