The Author: Dr. Leo E. Oliva is a former university professor of history. He farms with his wife, Bonita, in Rooks County, Kansas, and is the owner of Western Books publishing company. In addition Oliva is a freelance historian whose writing and research has focused on the frontier army and Indians as well as local history. This book is the fifth in the Kansas Forts Series. Olivia's other publications include Soldiers on the Santa Fe Trail (1967), Ash Rock and the Stone Church: The History of a Kansas Rural Community (1983), and Fort Union and the Frontier Army in the Southwest (1993).The Front Cover: Moving On, Fort Dodge, Kansas 1865-1882, by Jerry D. Fort Dodge: Sentry of the Western Plains is the fifth volume in the Kansas Forts Series published by the Kansas State Historical Society in Cooperation with the Kansas Forts Network. The other books in this series are; Fort Wallace, Fort Hays, Fort Larned, Fort Scott, Fort Harker, Fort Riley and Fort Leavenworth.
