Ash Creek Crossing Pawnee County

WILLIAM GREIFFENSTEIN

William Greiffenstein operated a trading ranche at Walnut Creek from 1860 to 1864. Leaving the crossing at the outset of the 1864 Indian uprising, he engaged in the Indian trade in southern Kansas and Indian Territory. In 1869, he relocated to the confluence of the Arkansas and Little Arkansas Rivers where he was largely responsible for the founding of Wichita, Kansas.
