"Cream Can Dinner"

First off you need a five gallon cream can, stainless steel milk pail will also work and it's easy to clean.

In either case, the container needs to have a vented lid. If no lid is available, a piece of aluminum foil can be used, pierce the foil for a vent.

Layers of the following ingredients are placed in the container in this order: potatoes (scrubbed and quartered), cabbage (cut into rather large wedges), carrots, onions (quartered or halved depending on the size), corn on the cob, (roasting ears broken in halves), now a final layer of polish sausage (quartered).

The only other ingredient is 1 1/2 quarts of water.

Place over a low flame or bed of coals. The container should rest on a grate over the fire.

Cook one hour. Remove from container, butter corn and salt and pepper to taste.

Note: a large container such as a dish pan is helpful to "dump" the ingredients into from the cream can or container.
