Minutes of Spring Meeting
The chapter conducted its spring meeting April 18, 2004 at Pawnee Rock, Kansas. Included in the guests was Anne Mallinson, Vice President of the NSFT. A report was given regarding recently placed interpretive markers at Sibley's Camp, Parker's Ranche, and Boyde's Ranche. Special note was made of non-members assisting in the construction and installation of the markers: Herman Mausolf, Tom Giessel, and Jerry Johnson, all of Larned, Kansas. Membership chairperson Alice Clapsaddle reported that the chapter roster contains sixty-five members, many of which are family memberships. Rusti Gardner, chuck wagon chairperson, reported that the chapter will cater a Mexican meal at the Santa Fe Trail Rendezvous on September 17, 2004. A discussion was conducted relative to the chapter's award for Santa Fe Trail entries in the Kansas History Day competition. The subject will be discussed in detail during the summer meeting.A thank you note was read from the Kearny County Historical Museum for the Faye Anderson Award plaque presentation in memory of Paul Bentrup. The plaque will be on exhibit at the museum. Following the business session and refreshments, Robert Yarmer of Ellinwood, Kansas presented an informative program on trade beads. At the conclusion of the meeting, members adjourned to the Ash Creek Crossing to install an interpretive marker.
Marker Added to Booth Tour
The old hotel building which occupied the site of the Larned House at 4th and Broadway in Larned, Kansas has been razed. The plaque identifying the location of the Larned House constructed in 1873 was removed from the building and recently attached to a handsome limestone post situated at that place. Thanks to landowner Troy Smith for allowing the marker to be placed on his property. Thanks also go to Mildon Yeager for his assistance in the installation of the plaque and the setting of the stone.New Members

The chapter's summer meeting will be held at the Little Red House at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, July 9, 2004. The fare will be hamburgers, chips, icy cold watermelon and drinks. Table service will be provided. The chapter will provide all the eats, but members should bring lawn chairs. The program of classical guitar music will be presented by Borislav Peranovic of Kinsley. Bob and Rosie Rein will again be our chefs while Barbara German and Alice Clapsaddle will handle hostess duties. Note: restrooms are available two blocks away in the city park.Faye Anderson Award
Nominations for the Faye Anderson Award are now open and applications will be available at the July 9, 2004 meeting. Deadline for nominations is September 1, 2004. Nominations may include chapter and non-chapter individuals or organizations. Nominations are accepted from members of the Wet/Dry Routes members only.2004 Officers
