William Mathewson, Proprietor of the Cow Creek Ranche

William Mathewson, proprietor of the Cow Creek ranche, was often away from his business pursuing trade with the Indians; and by 1866, he was residing at Fort Zarah leaving the operation of the ranche to his wife, Lizzie. In that year, he was appointed postmaster at the Fort Zarah Post Office, a short-term occupation. Later, he joined William Greiffenstein in the development of early Wichita.
